Kayaks and Shellfish

The Sedge Islands Marine Conservation Zone is the perfect location for you and your family to learn all about clamming! Hop into a kayak and follow expert park naturalists to the clamming grounds where you will learn all about the anatomy of a clam, why they are important for the Bay, minimum size requirements, recreational limits and even pick up some tricks of the trade.

Note: A Recreational Shellfish Harvesting Permit is REQUIRED to bring any clams home!


PROGRAM DETAILS - PLEASE READ!

  • Must be 14 years or older, minors (14-17) must be accompanied by an adult.

  • All equipment is provided. Kayaks are open-top tandem (2-person0 ocean kayaks. You are welcome to bring your own kayak, but please give us advanced notice.

  • No kayaking experience is necessary.

  • Participants must be in good health and physical condition. Kayaking can be strenuous and difficult at times, depending on conditions.

  • Programs will run rain or shine, however high winds and/or thunderstorms will cancel the program. There will be NO REFUNDS unless the Park cancels the program. No exceptions.

  • Meet at parking lot A21, approximately 8 miles south of the park entrance. Parking is limited so please arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to the start of the program. Additional parking is located in lot A20.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Water, sunscreen, bug spray. A snack, towel and change of clothes is optional.

  • A liability form must be signed prior to your trip and will be provided upon arrival.

  • Your email confirmation is your ticket. Please bring a copy (electronic is preferred, Just show us your phone!)
