  • Island Beach Nature Programs IBSP Parking Lot A21 (map)

New for 2023!!!!!

In partnership with NJ Fish & Wildlife, IBSP is proud to announce that we’ve added a new twist to our popular Sedge Islands Kayak EcoTour! This year, our guides will take you on a moderate paddle through the Barnegat Bay to the Sedge Islands Natural Resource Education Center!

Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center is a 100+ year old duck hunting lodge located in Barnegat Bay off Island Beach State Park, in New Jersey’s only marine conservation zone only. Participants have the rare opportunity to explore the house and the secluded private island paradise rich with history of famous sportsman, historians and conservationists. We can go birding, clamming, seining or simply enjoy the views from the rooftop deck.

NOTE: The Sedge Islands Natural Resource Education Center is NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Participants must be with NJDEP Fish & Wildlife or Park Service staff to enter.

Must be 14 years or older to participate, minors (14-17) must be accompanied by an adult.

We provide all equipment. Kayaks are open-top tandem 2-person ocean kayaks. You are welcome to bring your own kayak if you prefer, but please give us advanced notice.

No kayaking experience is necessary. We will provide some brief instruction on how to kayak before the program tailored for complete beginners.

Ticket sales will close at 4pm the day before the event.

Tours will run rain or shine. There will be NO REFUNDS unless the Park cancels the event. No exceptions.

Meet your naturalists at parking lot A21, approximately 8 miles south of the park entrance. Parking is limited so please arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to the start of the program. Additional parking is located in lot A20.

Please remember to bring your ticket!
